Polite rejection means having a nice but.
The Student got a little cheeky with this one!
"You're a great guy but..."
"I'd love to help on your committee but..."
"That sounds like a fun party but..."
Just because you must decline, that doesn't mean you can't do it in style. Be kind, getting rejected is never fun and some take it worse than others. Wish them luck or just compliment them on their good taste in candidates. A little sweetness goes a long way.
